A mixed bag of sedans and open wheelers marked a resounding return of racing to Rolling Thunder  Raceway (Bacchus Marsh) today on a beautiful Autumn Sunday where records were set before a vocal  and appreciative crowd.  The sensational Street Stocks were the numerically superior class and it  was the current Australia 1 & 2 in Brad McClure and Mick Clark who  went head to head with Clark getting the upper hand in the end and in the  process writing his name into the record books as the first driver to win  feature events in two different classes at Bacchus Marsh. Clark and  McClure faced off against each other in each heat and went one win  apiece although McClure new he was in for a tough day with a broken  exhaust just taking the edge off his Richard Spies owned Commodore.  Having said that Clark had beaten McClure in their first heat before the  problem arose. Jamie Lock in the neat GV43 completed the podium after  a tough battle with Brendan Hannabury and John Roycroft completing the  top five. The other two heats had been taken out by Hannabury and  Anthony Wilson.  AMCA Nationals were also attending with solid numbers and it was Ricky Clark in the V5 who scored his  second Rolling Thunder Raceway (RTR) AMCA feature. Grant Cullinger drove brilliantly to snare second with  Shea Bradley showing no effects from her recent roll over to grab the final podium position.   Heat wins had earlier gone to Cullinger and Paul Sullivan.  In the small field of Formula V8’s Steve Forte took the feature win after early contact between himself and  Don Chettleburgh who’d won both of the heats, had eliminated the favourite. Forte had to endure a tough three  car battle which saw Russ Matthews and Kieran Brennan shadow him across the line with Gareth Williams in  fourth.  Standard Saloons provided a smaller than expected grid but the racing was pretty good with Michael Hume  overcoming an oil sensor blow out while leading his heat to win the final from Leigh Gooding, John Watson  and Rachael Robinson.  Heats were scored by Ben Farquar and Gooding.  VSC Open Sedans saw Wayne Nelson take the main event from Ash Schoonbeck, Sonia Nelson, Sam Williams  and Rod Brown. Nelson had won the opening heat on a very wet tack and then Schoonbeck took a last corner  victory over Nelson in their second heat.  The final racing class was the ASCF Juniors and it was a real battle between Nick Cockerill and Lachlan  Reeves with Cockerill gaining the upper hand but not before Reeves led the first half of the feature. Following  these two across the line were Brodie Norton, Shane Younger, Mick Skene, Matt Nelson and Morgan Swandall.  A number of Sprintcars removed their wings for some spirited demonstration  laps and Brett Milburn was incredibly quick until he backed the ex Donny  Schatz J&J into turn one too hard and the car gripped up on the big right rear  and Milburn rode out a frightening and fast series of flips that destroyed the  car and had Brett’s head spinning. Thankfully Brett was a little shaken but  otherwise okay.  Others to turn laps included Chris Solomon, Colin Barker, Ken Hutchins  (who blew his engine), Paul Solomon (with the wing on for development  purposes) and late arrival Wayne Milburn.  Bill Mentiplay brought out a couple of his Late Model Sedans for a  demonstration also and Gary Bryans looked superb on the big track in the  big sedan and had many people impressed and wanting more.  Rolling Thunder Promotions would sincerely like to thank each and every competitor, crew and fan that  attended and hope you had a great days racing.  Look out for future media release outlining further planned events or for further information contact Chris Overall on 0409 847 780, Rob Harris on 0418 977 783 or Ray Solomon on 0407 801 513 or visit us on Facebook.
